DUELS! – Hosted by Gildedguy

Now surrounded by a secure castle and stories to look back upon, Gildedguy has been inspired to invite more stories into his life. Stories from the many adventurers of Cier! And so, “DUELS!” is born, a fast-paced series of community-submitted works meant to entertain, showcase talent, and allow Gildedguy to engage in even more friendly battles.

The goal is a rotating gallery of stories that will be presented on the overlay during livestreams. Imagine a game-jam/art-a-thon vibe instead of a full blown film festival.

  • Ensures regular exposure since they can be played automatically in future livestreams
    • They’ll pop in between song-requests like a commercial or story-time break.
  • Short-enough to be produced without burn-out
  • Each new story will have its own mini-premiere & themed in-game/gala items
  • Depending on quality, Gildedguy may feature submissions on the YouTube channel in a compilation or shorts.

Story Requirements

  • Preferred that a fight takes place between two characters
  • Setting must take place at Gilded’s Castle or be within the neighboring area (Aegis Town). Doesn’t have to mention these locations by name, but the setting must be compatible.
  • These stories are non-canonical to Gildedguy’s Stories unless coordinated with Gildedguy
  • Server content rules apply to submissions (No NSFW, hot/political topics, etc.)

Submission Format

For stories to be enjoyed as a shared experience (premieres), they will be formatted as audio-visual media

Written/Webcomic Submissions:

  • Must include narration, but don’t worry – Gildedguy will help contract/provide voiceover
  • Optional Voice acting & Sound FX
  • Optional Images/animated clips
    • Must be in 16:9 or 9:16
    • Provide timestamps for when to show/hide each image/clip
  • Narrated duration must be 2-10 minutes long.

Fully rendered video submissions are even better:

  • You can submit your written story with the above requirements in video format.
  • Include as much animation as you want
  • If you can convey the story without narration (pure animation), you may do so.
  • Animations must be at least 30 seconds long
  • Use of copyrighted music is okay so long as it is not blocked on YouTube.

Hopefully this will allow writers, illustrators, & animators to all contribute how they wish. Stories can range from a paragraph of text, to a full minute-long animated fight. All will receive the Gilded Castle premiere treatment!

Volunteers Appreciated

  • Narrators
  • Voice actors
  • Sound Designers

Volunteers can offer their services to the community by making a post in the #duels-projects forum channel on the Discord server with the tag “Volunteering”.

Deadlines

To keep things on the light & fun side, production times will be quick (1-2 months). I want to focus on practice over perfection.

We’ll have recurring submission points throughout the year:

  1. The following deadline will be 2 months later from that
  2. The following deadline will be 1.5 months later
  3. The following deadline will be ~1 month later (etc..)

If you miss one deadline, you can always submit for the following one.

How to Participate

  1. Decide what format you want to create your story in (written, illustrated, and/or animation).
  2. Work solo or collab with other artists on your submission.
    1. Optionally post your progress in the event-channel in the Discord Server
  3. Wait for the new submission form link to be announced and submit!
    1. This is not the same as the old form link (active until 2/14), which was created to survey interest
    2. Gildedguy will then review and reach out to you about how we’ll showcase your work.
  4. Wait for the next premiere (a lil after April 4th) for your work to be shown on stream!

In addition to all this, Gildedguy will be privately handpicking duelists to personally fight for fun and story progression.

Gildedguy Canon Friendly Tips

Here are some character-design & worldbuilding tips that I factor into considering a story as canon-friendly to the Gildedguy Stories. These are not requirements for making a submission, but will increase the chance of having our characters cross paths.

  • Stick figure anatomy
  • Medieval/fantasy/martial arts combat
  • Minimal to no references to pop-culture/media
  • Characters should be distinct enough from GG’s featured characters
  • Characters’ designs should not be overly adorned with equipment and clothing.
  • Characters should be depicted as being in a “general adventure” spot in their story arcs to allow for one-shot tales to occur.
  • Aim for the one-shot: Stories should be self-contained with a pretty clear resolution.

Questions? Ask them below! These guidelines are subject to change based on your feedback.

FAQ

If we submitted on the old form, should we still submit on the new one?

Yes, because they’re different forms: the new one will be for submitting your final finished piece (writing, comic, animation etc.)

Is it fine the fact my characters have unique/weird features?

Yup, its your story! It may not blend into my world/canon which is fine, but will not have as much staying power/popularity with viewers.

When do you plan on adding the new submission form (for finished pieces)?

In a week or two, at the start of March.

In the comic do we require voice acting or will you be the one to look for voice for the narrative ?

Comics require narration at the very least! I can help source a narrator for your comic if need be.

Do we have to create a Project/Character Post in the Discord server?

No, you don’t have to post work in progress, you can just wait until the submission form and submit there. But you may want to post updates in case I spot anything inappropriate/ill-fitting for the event, and then I can give you more heads up.

How many characters/projects can we submit?

Maximum of 2 separate character/project posts – if you want lots of your own OC’s, you should probably just make it one story/submission and write them all in your single story.

Do we have to duel other people? Or can we make a project entirely on our own?

Either is fine! You can VS another artist, or just create your own story. You also don’t have to create a forum post, you may work on your submission in secret until it’s time to submit

How exactly is the winner of the event gonna be decided?

I don’t think I’ll announce any specific winners, since this is not a competition.

What about each duels’ winner, do we decided who wins by ourselves?

How the duel/story ends is up to you and your collaborators!

I have a current project I’ve been working on for long while that I want to share with the community. Can I still submit for one of the deadlines?

Sure, we can still premiere it in our event because this is not a competition, and it will help you with motivation too! We’ll note that it’s been a long-time project, and other entrants should not compare themselves against your bigger project.

How it is with the duels of different categories. Can they be mixed? Like one has written another has animated. Or comic and animation. Should both of the duelist be same or it doesn’t matter that much?

It can be mixed, this is going to be a freeform event, with relatively loose rules (since we’re not competing). We’ll try to pair two sides of the “same duel” together when we premiere. So it can be the comic story first, then animated story. Or vice versa.

Maybe this could be a opportunity. Is it okay if i do a narrative with images since im bad at animation

Mister · February 18, 2026 at 3:18 pm

Should we make this a more grounded self-contained story or should we tie our story into the larger GG plot (mostly related to the duel fight hosted inside the castle)?

    Michael · March 1, 2026 at 11:36 am

So long as the story takes place in the vicinity of the castle, you’re free to align your plot as close to GG’s story as you want.

BZGR · February 14, 2026 at 7:54 am

    Michael · March 1, 2026 at 11:35 am

GrievousDevious · February 12, 2026 at 6:22 pm

Jake · February 10, 2026 at 12:09 pm

Any general guidelines for the stick figure anatomy? Are things like ears and tails allowed or simply just a humanoid stick figure?

    Michael · February 12, 2026 at 5:46 pm

Ears and tails are okay – although, I haven’t featured any sticks with those features yet so it’ll depend on how minimal the elements are.

Mr. Duck · February 10, 2026 at 2:07 am

If I choose the “animate” option, do I need to animate it in 2D? Or does 3D count too? .u.

    Michael · February 12, 2026 at 5:45 pm

    3D is fine!

naru · February 9, 2026 at 9:58 pm

I’ll definitely try to participate on this! For consistency on how the battle arena in the castle may look like, is there somewhere we can find reference images for Gilded’s Castle / Aegis Town besides of in the latest video?

    Michael · February 12, 2026 at 5:51 pm

I’ll be posting refs to the castle in the coming week. In the meantime, you can use Story #9 (and the unreleased, Gildedguy vs Violet) as references.
